Department Overview:
The East Dundee Police Department is comprised of seventeen full-time sworn, three part-time sworn and two non-sworn members dedicated to providing the very best law enforcement services to our community. The East Dundee Police Department is a state accredited police department through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). The East Dundee Police Department is staffed by highly trained professionals who are committed to a community-oriented policing philosophy. We pride ourselves on the high level of service we provide all of our stakeholders.
Area Information:
Located in Dundee Township on the eastern Kane County boarder with Cook County, approximately 29 miles from O'Hare Airport, at the Rt 25 exit of I-90. Evenly located 50 miles from downtown Chicago and Rockford.
Hiring Process:
Written examination through NTN, 70 minimum passing score

Disqualification:
The Commission may refuse to examine an applicant or, after examination, to certify him as eligible:
Who is found lacking in any of the established preliminary requirements for the service for which he or she applies.
Who is physically unable to perform the duties of the position to which he or she seeks appointment.
Who is addicted to the use of drugs or intoxicating beverages.
Who has been convicted of a felony or any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.10-6 of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act.
Who has been dismissed from any public service for good cause.
Who has attempted to practice any deception or fraud in his or her application.
Who may be found disqualified in personal qualifications or health.
Whose character and employment references are unsatisfactory.
Who does not possess a high school education or its equivalent.
Who has applied for a position as a police officer and is, or has been, classified by his or her Local Selective Service Draft Board as a conscientious objector.
Any applicant or eligible candidate deemed disqualified, as provided herein, shall be notified in writing of the disqualification by the Commission. The specific reason(s) for such disqualification shall be withheld from the candidate, shall be confidential, and shall not be disclosed. Waivers signed by candidates shall include this confidentiality policy.

Preference Points:

The Commission shall give preference in original appointment to the Police Department to the following persons whose names appear upon the Initial Eligibility List as follows:

Candidates who have successfully obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university shall receive one (1) preference point.
Candidates who have successfully obtained a master’s degree from an accredited college or university shall receive one (1) preference point.
Candidates who are certified police officers in any state shall receive one (1) preference point.
Candidates serving as part-time police officers in the Village of East Dundee in good standing shall receive one (1) preference point.
Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one (1) year and who were honorably discharged or who are now or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service (not including, however, in the case of offices, positions and places of employment in the police department, persons who were convicted by court martial of disobedience of orders where such disobedience consisted in the refusal to perform military service on the ground of religious or conscientious objection) shall receive five (5) preference points.
