The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners of the Village of Lombard, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Lombard Police Department.
A maximum of (5) preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Lombard for any one the following:
Education: Persons who have successfully obtained an Associate's Degree in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice -OR- a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Copy of unofficial transcripts must be submitted with application to qualify.
Experience: Persons who have been awarded a certificate of successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (Certified Illinois Police Officer). Copy of state-issued certification must be submitted with application to qualify.
Military: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year, and were honorably discharged, -OR- who are now, or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service. A copy of Form DD-214 or equivalent proof of current military service must be submitted with application to qualify.

Mandatory Remote On-Line Written Examination:
Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing:
Starting at 9:00 AM
Friday, January 31, 2025 through Monday, February 3, 2025 at 4:00 PM
The test will only be available during this time period. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer.
All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).

Job Requirements
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Lombard:

U.S. citizenship;
Resident of the State of Illinois;
No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration);
Valid state-issued driver's license;
Possess 20/20 corrected vision;
Minimum of 21 years of age by the application deadline date (January 17, 2025);
Be UNDER 35 years of age, unless exempt from the age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6(d)) of the Fire and Police Commissioners Act;
Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. equivalent;
Completed a minimum of 60 credit hours at an accredited college, university or junior college (official transcripts will be required at the background investigation stage) -OR- have one year of active military or naval service (documented by an honorable discharge) -OR- currently a certified police officer in the State of Illinois by the application deadline date (January 17, 2025);
Applicants are not obligated to disclose expunged juvenile records of adjudication, arrest, or conviction as part of the application process
Possess a valid POWER Test card from an ILETSB entity (such as NIPSTA, Triton College, Joliet Junior College, Southwestern Illinois College, etc.) issued within the last 12 months and presented no later than 30 days after the application deadline date (January 17, 2025);
Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee.

Lateral Transfer Candidates:
An applicant who is/was a police officer in good standing with the law enforcement agency he/she is/was employed with and certified by the State certification board is eligible to be placed on a lateral transfer eligibility list.

Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to obtain a P.O.W.E.R. test card issued within the last 12 months and presented no later than 30 days after the application deadline date (January 17, 2025);
Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to take the written exam;
Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to participate in the oral interview process.

In order to be eligible for the Lateral Transfer Eligibility List, you must meet the following requirements:

Have been employed, whether currently or in the past, for at least two (2) years as a full-time, non-probationary, sworn law enforcement officer by a Federal, State, County, or local law enforcement agency.
NOTE: Part-time certification does NOT meet this requirement.
Must be in good standing with the agency in which they served.
Be at least 23 years old - AND - be under 40 years old at the time of hire, per ILCS Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioner's Act.
Ability to furnish upon request a copy of the following documents to the extent applicable:
- Resume
- Professional licenses
- Training certificates
- Naval or military serve board or discharge papers (DD-214/Copy 4)
- Documents confirming work experience
